Ever Read The Great Gatsby or Candide?

I've only read The Great Gatsby. Jay Gatsby is definitely disillusioned. He thinks that Daisy Buchanan is this perfect angel, and he thinks that if he just keeps trying hard, he'll win her over. Daisy is also unrealistic; she's just too superficial and shallow to fit into the real world.
