Do LIRR conductors always check monthly pes?

Im in zone 4 now and have a p to Penn station-it seems every time i pull it out they just glance at it and dont actually look at what it is for-since this is the case if I got a p from Zone 4 to Zone 3, which is much cheaper-would I be able to get away with it , since they dont look at the ticket to begin with? Or do tickets have different colors depending on the zone?
