Are you for standard issue carry or against it?

Where I live the State Troopers have made it mandatory for all Troopers to carry the Sig Sauer p226 in .357 sig. A few Troopers are complaining the dont like the caliber, because of recoil. Do you think the state should decide which gun to you should carry or should it be up to the officer, as long as it a quality carry gun.
